Zero has various elements but no connective medium. Film progresses from a small town to Mars without any string to connect all the events. Too many cooks spoil the broth- one single phrase can explain the condition of this movie. Himanshu Sharma imagined a story with high possibilities but didn't make a proper plan to join the dots.
There are so many things happening in the movie that you might need a pen and a notebook to jot down all the events. At first there is Shah Rukh Khan playing similar character like Fan but with more confidence and attitude. He as Bauua Singh is cocky and knows how to charm everyone with his cute smile and dimples. He is 38 years old and searching for true love . So one day he sees Aafia Bhinder (Anushka Sharma) who is a NASA scientist. Bauua Singh then starts too woo her with his innocence and grand proposal like we have seen in the Mere Naam Tu. And Aafia eventually falls for him , which is a bit unconvincing.
Bauua then decides to meet his celebrity crush Babita Kumari( Katrina Kaif) who might be the only good thing about this movie. Her love affair and depressed character is certainly the most interesting thing to see. Finally Bauua decides to take a free-for-all competition to go to the Mars. Everything is there on the trailer, you go to watch the movie expecting to find the proper connecting dots but you come out more confused than you were before.
As far as the acting goes , Shah Rukh played the needs of his character brilliantly but Katrina Kaif is the dark horse of this movie. I expected her role and acting to be quite normal and unexpressive but I am happy to say that I was wrong about her. Anushka as Aafia isn't much convincing. Zeeshan was as usual great in his dialogue delivery but he didn't get much screen time. The camera shots and VFX are all good but overall this movie is a failure for SRK. And this is only because of the messy story. Music by Ajay- Atul is quite good. They have made good songs based on the requirement of different situations. As for the screentime, this movie is very long. You can somehow manage the first half but second half is too absurd and long. Overall this movie isn't the one, we thought would be a comeback for SRK.
